  • VANCOUVER'S KAYI CHEUNG WINS MISS HK 2007 *Translated from The Sun & Takungpao
Miss HK 2007 finals were last night. Winner was 23 year old #3 Kayi Cheung Ga-Yi from Vancouver, Canada. She had also won the Miss Vitality Ambassador award. 1st RU #9 Grace Wong hails from New York, USA & won the Miss Photogenic & Miss International Goodwill, while 2nd RU #7 Lorretta Chow won Most Attractive Legs award. Unfortunately, hot door #2 Lily Ho failed to place in the top 8.

The finals were held at Hong Kong Coliseum. MC’s were Eric Tsang Ji-Wai, Nat Chan Bak-Cheung & Sammy Leung (Sam Mei). The show had a Fashion Show theme. Past Miss HK winners/finalists also appeared on stage for a bit. They include Miss HK 99 Sonija Kwok, Miss HK 98 Anne Heung, Miss HK 01 Shirley Yeung, Miss HK 03 Mandy Cho, Miss HK 05 Tracy Ip, Miss HK 06 Aimee Chan. Miss HK 04 Kate Tsuei was a guest performer alongside TVB actor Raymond Lam.

The delegates were dressed in beautiful couture like costumes throughout the show. Contestants had to go through several rounds of competition. Scores were revealed in some. Hot favourites #2 Lily Ho & #12 Nicole Lee did not advance in the top 8. #2 Lily's downfall was in swimsuit while #12 Nicole, although eliminated, performed quite well during the swimsuit competition.

In the end, the finalists were #3 Kayi Cheung, #4 Mandy Wong, #7 Lorretta Chow, #9 Grace Wong, #14 Candice Chiu. #3 Kayi eventually won the title, though her performance wasn't completely outstanding & didn't always score the highest points in certain segments. During the Miss Photogenic presentation, Eric Tsang embarrassed the recipient of the award #9 Grace a bit by saying "Miss Photogenic...means she's not pretty in person but absolutely photogenic in photos!"

Winner #3 Kayi is 5'4.5" & is a University student in Vancouver, BC. Her hobbies are traveling & skiing & ambition in life is to promote a healthy lifestyle & food safety & would also like to become a TV Host. Kayi was considered a cold door, as a result she was instantly booed when announced as the winner. But because of her excitement she did not hear the booing. "I didn't pay attention to any noises, I only wanted to thank my family & people who've surpported me" (Which segment did you score high in?) "Maybe the interview was good" (Any Sadness?) "No, receiving an award means I received general consensus" Like Lorretta's family, Kayi's also traveled a fair distance to watch her perform. They had planned a trip after the pageant was over. But since her win, it looks like it will have to be postphoned as TVB will be giving her work soon.

1st RU #9 Grace took home 3 awards & was not disappointed she'd lost. She told the press she never thought of winning first place but did want the Miss International Goodwill award. #7 Lorretta wasn't disappointed with third place either as she dreamt of placing in the top 3. Dreams do come true! Lorretta complimented Kayi & said she's a beautiful girl, has a nice figure & sweet eyes. #2 Lily thought #3 Kayi had the winner's look as well. As for her own performance, Lily believes she could've performed even better. (Where did you lose out? Was it the "Luxury butt"?) Lily expressed the judges judged based on performance.

Tidbits from Ryan of HKB who went to the show:
    - #12 Nicole tripped going backstage at one point in the show though it was not aired on tv. She was assisted by #9 Grace & a chaperone.
    - Some boos & jeers were heard when #14 Candice advanced to the top 5. The same thing happened to #3 Kayi when she was announced the winner.
    - Most of the audience seemed shocked by the results.
    - Miss HK 1997 finalist Christine Au Yeung is pregnant again! She looked about 4-5 months along.
    - Ryan & his friends waved to last year’s 2nd RU Koni from afar….who waved back!

MHKB: It looked like a wonderful production! Looked a bit like a VS show....minus the tall breathtaking models. #9 Grace surprised me. She had a great walk, poised & looked wonderful throughout the finals. It would've been interesting if Grace won Miss HK as she's also the current Miss Chinatown USA Chinese Chamber of Commerce 2007 & would've had the opportunity to battle it out again with Miss Chinatown USA 2007 Betty Hsu at Miss Chinese International 2008! #3 Kayi didn't stand out much to me but she must've done extremely well during the private interview with the judges. She has broken the curse & paved the way for future #3 Miss HK hopefuls (this number has never won nor placed in the top 3), as well as for future Fairchild TV Van & Toronto candidates! #7 Lorretta placing in the top 3 was not a surprise. Overall, I'm glad I kept myself busy with other things until 10 mins before the show ended! Congratulations to everyone!

  • MISS HK CONTESTANTS READY FOR TOMORROW
The Miss HK 2007 finals will be held tomorrow evening at Hong Kong Coliseum. Yesterday, the 16 delegates appeared in bikinis for their rehearsals. According to Takungpao, the delegates have had much time to lose weight but there are some who were still criticized for their large frames. The ones who stood out yesterday were #1 Joey Mak, #5 Destiny Cheng, #7 Loretta Chow, #9 Grace Wong. #5 Destiny Cheng was also randomly selected to wear the $1.8 million (HKD) crown. #6 Anita Wong & #10 Louise Wong were tied & chosen by the Mr. HK contestants as their pick for Miss HK.

Although organizers arranged to have the contestants keep fit/lose weight, the majority of contestants are still out of shape. The press was critical of #2 Lily Ho & #11 Kendra Wong's disproportional figures & labeled #2 Lily as "luxury butt". They also ranted about #16 Jenny Cheng's extra long torso & short legs. The standouts according to the press in swimsuits are #1 Joey Mak, #6 Anita Wong, #7 Loretta Chow, #9 Grace Wong.

MHKB: Standouts in swimsuit imho are #1 Joey, #6 Anita, #7 Loretta, #10 Louise, #12 Nicole, #13 Silvia.

    Mr. HK Votes!
Organizers arranged to have the 12 Mr. HK finalists appear at the dress rehearsals & vote for their choice for Miss HK. In the end, #6 Anita Wong & #10 Louise Wong tied for first. #6 Anita was confident & said she might've stood out because of her figure & long legs. #10 Louise says she'll go about her usual manner competing tomorrow for the title. Louise says "Time passed by so quickly! If only competing would take a year, that would be wonderful!"

    Hot Favourite
Hot favourite #7 Loretta Chow looked to be in top form. She believes she'll be ok & will sleep early for tonight. Her family flew back from Canada to support her for the finals.

    MHKB Predictions
    1st: 12
    2nd: 2
    3rd: 7
    Finalists: 6 & 4

I can see almost any other girl making it to the top 5 this year as it doesn't seem like a competitive year. All seem to lack just a little something. I think #1 Joey, #9 Grace & my sentimental favourite #13 Silvia have a shot as well. I was talking to Ryan of HKB...another 3 yr curse (89, 92, 95, 98, 01, 04 & now 2007). I might do the unthinkable & take my dogs swimming tomorrow morning & come back for the results so I won't feel as if I've wasted 3 hrs sitting at my desk waiting & not being productive.

JULY 17TH

  • MISS HK CONTESTANTS MEET THE JUDGES
This year's Miss HK 2007 finals will be held on Saturday, July 21st at Hong Kong Coliseum. Organizers arranged for the 16 contestants to meet the judges. The distinguished panel includes Miss HK 1977 Loletta Chu, Allan Zeman, movie director Andrew Lau Wai-Keung, Edward Cheng Wai-Sun and Former Actress Lily Ho. MC's for the finals include Eric Tsang, Nat Chan & Sammy Leung.

    Overseas contestants more language proficient?
The 16 contestants were divided in small groups while interviewed by the judges. It was said #2 Lily Ho & #5 Destiny Cheng, may have lost out when they had to answer Allan Zeman's questions in english. They were supposedly not as proficient as some of the overseas contestants. #2 Lily doesn't think she lost out as she reads english novels & her classes were often conducted in English & believes her interview portion with Mr. Zeman went ok. #5 Destiny doesn't think she lost out either as she attended an international school thus communication in English isn't a problem.

    Loletta Chu still beautiful

It has been 30 years since Loletta Chu was crowned Miss HK 1977. She is still beautiful & remains elegant & gracious even in the toughest situation (ie: answering questions regarding her family to the press).

    Public Favourites

#1 Joey Mak, #2 Lily Ho, #4 Mandy Wong, #5 Destiny Cheng, #12 Nicole Lee were voted by the public as the most popular top 5 contestants.

  • SHIRLEY YEUNG OUTSHINES CONTESTANTS AT SPONSOR EVENT *Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
The 16 contestants for this year's Miss Hong Kong Pageant showed off their legs at a sponsor's event yesterday, where they contested the award for "Most Attractive Legs". However, their limelight was stolen somewhat by guest judge Shirley Yeung, who taught the newcomers a lesson or two.

Wearing vests and hotpants, the girls paraded before judges Shirley and Aimee Chan. After earlier outshining the girls in Beijing with her figure during the athletics event, Shirley appeared in her super short pants and once again wowed the audience. Asked if she was intentionally stealing the limelight, Shirley said: "You flatter me! I rarely go to the beach, so I don't wear shorts very much. The outfit was prepared by the organisers, so there is no such issue. (Are you worried about exposing yourself?) No, I have underclothes on."

The beautiful legs award went to the tallest contestant #7 Lorretta Chow and she says that her figure is very balanced and this award has raised her confidence. As for winning prize money of $33,000, Lorretta says she will take the girls out for a meal to celebrate.

Aimee passed on some tips to her juniors, saying that the preparations before the show are very important, so they need to keep calm and not drink too much water the night before to avoid being puffy. Soon to hand over the title, Aimee has been preparing for a number of hosting jobs. Asked if she will be promoted by TVB into the next 'super-host', she says: "I don't know yet, I will let the company arrange my work, but I have not signed a contract yet."

  • #6 ANITA SHARES PRIZE MONEY WITH FELLOW CONTESTANTS *Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
The sixteen Miss Hong Kong finalists were at the Tsimshatsui branch of Sasa Cosmetics where they had a quiz on Perfume knowledge. #6 Anita Wong emerged as the winner of the competition and was awarded with a $5000 cosmetics voucher for Sasa, but she showed her generosity as she shared her prize with the other contestants, with the other girls in her team receiving $500 each and the other girls $100 each.

'Mature Ting Ting' #9 Grace Wong has been spotted out partying late and hugging male friends and she admits this, saying: "That was two months ago and my friends from France and America came to visit me, so we went down to Lan Kwai Fong. My friends were very gentlemanly and when they saw a seat in the venue, they pointed and then helped me to my seat. (Have you been warned by the competition?) No, I was not being unruly and just showing hospitality towards my friends.

#2 Lily Ho has been dubbed as hot favourite by netizens and she says she has been busy rehearsing and not had time to go online, but she thanks everyone for their support and will do her best.

Reports indicate that there will be a 'Catwalk in the Air' for this year's final and the girls will be hoisted on wires up to a platform 30 feet high for part of the show. TVB has been testing the girls' senses of balance to make sure they can do it. Kate Tsui and Raymond Lam will also be performing at the final, in a Broadway musical number. Kate says: "I will be dancing with all my juniors at the Coliseum and I am a little nervous. (Are your costumes sexy?) I don't know yet." Miss Photogenic judges have been confirmed as Mike He, Moses Chan and Charlie Yeung.

  • #12 NICOLE VOTED CONTESTANT MOST SUITED TO WEARING JEWELLERY *Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
The sixteen Miss Hong Kong contestants visited the jewellery sponsors to try on some diamonds yesterday, but the items they were given to wear varied between the girls. #2 Lily Ho and #1 Joey Mak modelled the most expensive and the least expensive items, valued at $1.28 million and $90,000 respectively. Joey said that this was down to the organisers to match their outfits, so she did not mind. As for Lily, she did not feel especially fortunate, saying: "Everyone looks beautiful with their jewels."

The girls voted for the "Contestant Most Suited to Wearing Jewellery" and #12 Nicole Lee won the vote and was presented with a set of jewellery worth $6000. She said happily: "I have never worked before, so I have never had a set of jewellery like this, so this is my first time and I will cherish this greatly."

  • #11 KENDRA & #15 JOYCE WIN MHK BEAUTY SPONSOR AWARDS *Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
The Miss Hong Kong finalists attended their "Whole Body Transformation Graduation" at Sa Sa Beauty + yesterday, where #15 Joyce Ko was presented with the "Image Improvement Star Award", for proving that she had not only improved her imae, but she also has a wonderful rapport with everyone. The award was voted for by the other contestants and with ten votes, she is highly tipped to win 'Miss Friendship'. #15 Joyce is very touched to have the support from her fellow contestants. #11 Kendra Wong was awarded with "Perfect Intelligence Star".

#2 Lily Ho was asked if she had undergone treatment to reduce her bottom, but she said obediently: "I have only tried the famous facials here, but if I have the chance, I will try the slimming treatments." As for being photographed having a facial in the car, she says: "I have been very busy lately, so I had to make the most of my time and use the mask in my dad's car. I will not do it next time."
