  • DRAMA QUEENS *translated from Appledaily, special thanks to AL
Miss Asia 2006 finals concluded 2 nights ago in Macau. Winner was cold door 16 year old #8 Daryna Shevchenko (Kazakhstan), who became the youngest winner to capture the crown. Many of the HK/Macau & China delegates were devastaed. According to the winner #8 Daryna, "I feel the China & HK/Macau delegates were very competitive & didn't want to lose".

(Pictured far right) #10 Erin Dong (Shangdong) a hot favourite for the crown had a meltdown after the competition & needed the assistance of ATV staff as well as some delegates who tried to comfort her. When reporters interviewed her she said, "I think this is a huge joke! I always led from beginning to the end, & made the final top 8. If it was like this, I'd rather be eliminated earlier than having my hopes dashed!".

But that's not all.....she also said "I guess I'm not pretty. I don't know what's good about the winner".

There's a russian expression....When the fighting is over, don't swing your fists!

    1st RU: #8 Jessica Chan
    2nd RU: #1 Heather Lin

    Sepcial Awards:
    Miss Friendship: #3 Valerie Haw

Neves attended the finals & said the crowd favorites were # 7 and # 8. Both were definite standouts and everyone knew they would finish 1-2. Apparently, their scores were so close that they had to recount them a few times to be sure. Word was that # 7 placed first with the judges because she had height to her advantage, although # 8 was more beautiful.

Incidentally, # 8 is the niece of the very 1st Miss Chinese Montreal 1985 Judy Woo who was in attendance and they introduced her to the sold out crowd.

Last year's winner Vicki Ng-Wan was not invited back, and the 2006 1st Runnerup Annabelle
    Chung
    crowned the winner.

This year's Miss Hong Kong winners Aimee Chan and Janet Chow were guests at the Hong Kong Open Squash Competition yesterday and with her great figure, even though she was well covered up in her casual clothes, Aimee was the centre of attention as soon as she sat down and overshadowed Janet in her pretty top.

Aimee revealed that she has taken part in a squash event before and had lessons from a professional, but she still cannot play very well. She finds it great fun though because you can play it on your own, but she still prefers to go skating or skiing as she loves the outdoors. As for recent magazine reports that fellow Miss Hong Kong winner Tracy Ip has had cosmetic surgery, she supports Tracy, saying: "She has always been very pretty and I don't think she has had surgery." After suggestions that she had breast enhancement during her own competition, what does Aimee think about surgery? She says that she does not oppose it, but the most important thing is for it to look natural. As for her figure being the focus all the time, she is not unhappy about this because she understands that everyone has something people will write about and the most important thing is that she will head towards the right direction.

With TVB's anniversary approaching, the custom in recent years is for the Miss Hong Kong winner to be one of the MC's for the event. Aimee hopes she will have the opportunity to take part, but says she has still not received notice from the company. As for the pressure of working with so many other senior MC's, she says that it will be an honour to work with them, like when she worked with Lydia Shum for the children's song awards, she found Lydia was very nice and did not scold people.

  • MORE MHKB PICS USED IN MAGS?
According to my good friend TT, Easyfinder magazine used a picture from MHKB'S MCI 1994 profiles (thanks Ennis!) in order to reveal the actual age of Bella Chan King-Mut (currently known as Chan Pui-Kai) as she claimed to be 2-3 yrs younger. Bella was Miss Macau in 1994.

The sad thing about pageants is....once you've entered in one, ur age will never be a secret! Thanks to Easyfinder for crediting.

Miss Hong Kong winners Aimee Chan and Janet Chow joined Heidi Chu at a charity event earlier and talking about fellow Miss Hong Kong contestant Erica Yuen's recent incident where her intimate photographs with her ex-boyfriend were published in a tabloid magazine, the three immediately indicated that they would not take these photographs with their boyfriends and Heidi went on to comment about how disgusting the photographs were: "The cover was horrible and I would not look at the article. I have never had these photos taken and even if I did, they would have to be decent because I like to share my photos on the net with my friends."

Aimee says she has never had intimate photos taken and even if her boyfriend was to request it, she would turn him down: "If I had to do it, I would be very careful and not get too intimate." However, this will not make her suspicious of her friend when they take photographs with her. Janet says that after entering the industry, her friends have been more worried about her than she has and they have been protecting her and even ask her before taking her photograph. She says she feels like a 'protected species', so she is not afraid of being betrayed by her friends.

  • LEANNE LI'S AIR HOSTESS DREAM COMES TRUE, *Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
Leanne Li has been chosen to be the face of Canada's first Chinese Airline, following in the footsteps of Jackie Chan and the company have agreed to sponsor her air travel to Canada, saving her a lot in airfares. She says: "I am very happy because I can save so much money! With free air travel, I will take time out to go on vacation to different places. The company will be expanding to many destinations in the mainland later, so I will be able to travel there for free too."

Leanne's dream comes true in the advertisements as she dresses as an air hostess: "To become an air hostess is my dream and since I was young, I have always found them to be very beautiful. They can also travel to so many different places, but then I entered showbiz so I gave up on the ideal. To be able to try the feeling of being a stewardess is already very happy for me."

The Miss Hong Kong winners Aimee Chan, Janet Chow, Konnie Lui and Suki Chui were joined earlier by Kenneth Ma on their goodwill tour of Guilin and Guangxi, where they experienced the local culture and filmed in many notable sights, making the most of the local customs.

In the nine day tour, Suki recalls: "I never thought that there are so many fun places in Guangxi and I learned to make 'stretch noodles' and dough dolls. The most memorable thing for me was the bunjee jump in a theme park, it was very exciting." Suki normally does not eat spicy foods has fallen in love with the spice after this trip. As for Aimee, she has found a new understanding of the meaning of contentment after experiencing the simple life of the villages.

  • WEDDING BELLS FOR EMILY LO & HACKEN LEE *Translated from Singtaonet
While Hacken Lee received the Most Popular Male Singer award at this year's Jade Solid Gold, it was revealed to millions of viewers of his upcoming nuptials with longtime girlfriend Emily Lo (Miss HK 1992) this coming November.

According to Singtaonet, the wedding is scheduled to be at the end of Novemeber. Hacken only told 10 of his good friends last week & the invitations will likely be sent out in November. As the only child & son of the Lee family, this is such joyous news. Hacken has also asked singer/actor Andy Lau Dak-Wah to be his bestman, while Hacken's idol & good friend singer Alan Tam Wing-Lun will be head of the 'brother team'.

Emily & Hacken secretly flew to England to apply for a marriage license & took professional wedding photos. At the time, both families knew of the activities but when Hacken came back to HK he did not admit to registering for the marriage license. Throughout the 13 year courtship, Hacken & Emily's relationship remained quite solid despite of few rumours.

Hacken wishes to give a memorable & sweet wedding for his bride. Due to his hectic schedule this year, they’ll only be able to tie the knot at the end of November. His upcoming activities include "Fei Chui Goh Sing Hoh Toi Hing" on November 4th, promotion event in Mainland, China on Novemeber 18th. He will be back in HK on the 20th & Singtaonet estimates the wedding will be after the 20th.

His new cd will also be revealed around that time & Hacken hopes people do not think the marriage is a publicity stunt to promote his new cd. TVB also asked to film his wedding & broadcast it on TV. But Hacken declined & revealed a marriage is between two people & doesn’t want his nuptials to be the hot topic at tea.

    Congratulations to the happy couple!

  • MISS HK NEWS,*Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
TVB has been filming sales presentation clips for next year's Grand Production "True Hero" and one scene stars Lai Lok Yi and Tracy Ip. They play immigration officers assisting an old lady who has suffered burns to meet with her daughter from the mainland who has not been able to complete all the procedures and it is a very moving scene. This is the first time that Tracy has taken part in such a big production and she is quite nervous, however she will prepare her good behaviours for working in television because she understands that as well as good acting talents, punctuality is also an important factor.

Tracy indicates that as she was taking part in the Miss World Pageant last year, she could not film for TVB's Sales Presentation last year. Although she is concentrating on her modelling career, she is still interested in acting and has gained some experience after her guest part in "Storm in a Pool". She hopes that after filming this clip for "True", she will be able to reprise her original role when the real filming for the series starts. Asked if she would feel pressure with her relative lack of experience, she says: "I feel that preparation is very important and acting has to be refined over time. I have learned to be punctual in my work at the studios and it is only after returning to modelling have I realised that models have this arrogance and bad habits. I see that there are many senior females at the company who are very punctual and professional and they live up to their reputations."

  • MISS CHINESE INTERNATIONAL NEWS *Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
TVB will begin airing a new travel show called "Beauties of the Land" and the two hosts Wong He and Bowie Lam have travelled to eight cities in China and working with the local television stations, they have chosen finalists representing the eight cities to take part in a grand finale at the end of the year in Hong Kong to select first, second and third positions and they will each represent their respective cities in the Miss Chinese International Pageant in January.

To mark the event, TVB held a special press event yesterday with Miss Hong Kong and TVB artistes representing the eight cities' candidates. The girls taking part were Tracy Ip, Carrie Lam, Rabee'a Yeung, Heidi Chu, Queenie Chu, Maria Chan, Anita Chan and Griselda Yeung. Together with Bowie and Ah He, they stepped out together in a grand launch gesture.

Bowie reveals that he has visited Dalian, Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou and will soon be heading out to Xian, Chengdu, Nanning and Guangzhou. Although he has been busy filming for this show recently, he has been keeping an eye on the progress of the anniversary voting and he has been nominated for his role in "Dance of Passion" and he is quietly confident, seeing his main adversary as Adam Cheng and Damian Lau. He jokes: "If the top five include Adam and Damian, then I will treat myself as already winning the award. Fortunately there is no Roger Kwok and 'Ah Wong' this year, otherwise my chances would be very slim. (You have already won the award, do you still want to win it?) Of course, this is an honour and recognition and a good reason to put my fee up a little!"

He also feels that there is quite a strong contest for the Female award this year, because it is an even battle between Sheren Tang, Ada Choi and Charmaine Sheh. As for the other hot favourite Myolie Wu, he says that he does not want to comment because he has not seen her series yet, but having worked with her before, he finds her very conscientious.

For some people, Friday 13th is considered unlucky and for Tracy, things certainly did not go smoothly yesterday. When she took a taxi to go to the hair salon, the fifteen minute journey took 45 minutes with the meter running, fortunately she had enough money with her. During her styling, a heated curler fell onto her neck, leaving a pink mark where it had slightly burnt her. She said with a pout: "I have been burnt by a roller on several occasions, this is the price you pay for beauty."

Talking of beauty, Tracy says that she has worn her chipao on a number of occasions, but in the past it was quite loose fitting, but this time it is quite tight, so she will be slimming down again soon. When it was pointed out that she is already very skinny, she complained about her puffy cheeks, so she will try anything that will help her slim her cheeks and although some treatments are quite painful, she says it is worth it when her face looks more pointed. She says excitedly: "Many of my friends have had bone movement procedures to slim down their faces and I have tried it on my leg joints to reduce the parts that stick out. I will go and try it on my face later."

Tracy Ip back on the Catwalk
Having hailed from the modelling world, it has been two years since Tracy Ip last walked down the catwalk, but she was invited to be a guest model for the Episode, Jessica and Episode Studio Autumn/Winter collection show yesterday. The organisers had arranged for her to appear first and also for her to stand in the centre during the curtain call and she says: "They all treated me very well and they let me go into hair later so I didn't have to wait and they also allowed a private space for me to get changed in. Of course I am happy to stand in the middle. They will also be sponsoring some of my clothes." She laughs that it is easy to get fat at TVB, so she has had to lose around six or seven pounds for this event. However, maybe she was too nervous and this led to a lack of a smile and she seemed like she was running away from someone on the stage.

  • MISS HK CELEBRATES MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL *Translated & courtesy of Em, TVBSpace.Net
Miss Hong Kong winners Aimee Chan, Janet Chow and Koni Lui joined Bond Chan, Martin Lau and Chan Chi Sun for a TVB Pearl Mid Autumn festival event yesterday and the three beauty queens appeared in ancient costume for the first time as they showed off their beauties. Aimee was dressed as Sheung Ngo and Janet and Koni were dressed as rich ladies. The six played games on the stage and tried lantern puzzles as well as talking about mooncakes and drawing festive pictures. The three men also had a moment of bliss as they were fed mooncakes by the beauties.

Aimee says that she used to spend Mid-Autumn in Toronto's Chinatown and although it is not a holiday there, she still used to ask her mother to buy her lanterns. Asked if she likes eating mooncakes, Aimee says she likes them and she has tried the ice pastry variety for the first time in Hong Kong this year and they taste good. Aimee was dressed as Sheung Ngo and was asked whether she knew about her story. She says that as she grew up abroad, she was not too sure, but she just knew it was something to do with mid-Autumn.

There have been reports that Lydia Shum aggrevated her condition after working with novice MC Aimee at the Children's Song Awards and when Aimee heard about this, it made her very nervous, but she said she knew nothing of it and she says that only Lydia knows the truth. Janet helped her out by saying: "It shouldn't be related."

Aimee pointed out that Lydia works with newcomers every year and it should not be this that has caused her condition. Asked if she felt that Lydia was poorly at the event, she says that this was the first time she had met Lydia and she did not know how she was before, so it is difficult to compare. Aimee felt that Lydia looked fine on the night and even gave her tips on how to host the show, such as speaking a little louder so that the audience could hear clearly. Did she feel that Lydia was weary? Aimee says that everyone was tired after working for so long.
