  • MISS CALGARY CHINESE 2006
    It's back!

    Miss Calgary Chinese 2006 is taking place on October 29, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

    This prestigious event promises to draw a broad cross-section of Calgarians including business, government and culture.

    It will provide an invaluable opportunity to enhance relations between leaders in our local Chinese community and Calgary’s corporate society.

    Miss Calgary Chinese will give young women of Chinese descent an opportunity to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, honing both professional and personal life skills.

    The winner will represent Calgary as a Goodwill Ambassador promoting the Alberta Advantage on a goodwill mission to Hong Kong and China, and at the Miss Chinese International, an event viewed by hundreds of millions world-wide.

  • ROSE OF TRALEE
    Jenna-Lee Creelman (MWC 06 Miss Brampton) will be represeting Toronto at next month's Rose of Tralee International Festival/pageant next month in Ireland. Jenna was selected as "Toronto's Rose 2006" back in June. The festival is only for women of Irish ancestry.

  • MISS WORLD CANADA ON A WHIM (BRETT CLARKSON, TORONTO SUN)
    Malgosia Majewska never imagined she'd be crowned Miss World Canada.

    Born in Poland, raised in Brampton, and educated at Temple University in Philadelphia, Majewska never thought she'd ever go from college volleyball player to pageant winner.

    But the 25-year-old Brampton resident did just that on Sunday, when she was crowned Miss World Canada at a pageant, held at Diesel Playhouse on Blue Jays Way.

    Despite the fact she speaks four languages and has an honours degree in international business and economics from Temple -- where she was awarded a scholarship for volleyball, Majewska was speechless when the crown was placed on her head.

    "I started to shake. I went completely blank. I didn't know what to think," she said in an interview.

    Majewska had only applied in January to the Miss World Canada pageant on a whim, after a friend suggested she give it a try.

    "At first I said, 'No way, why would I ever do something like that? But then I started checking into it and kinda got a little excited about it, so I decided to apply."

    Majewska works at a media and merchandising sales company.

    Miss Photogenic: I had the privledge in selecting the winner for the Miss Photogenic award again. Others I'd considered for the award were Niagara Region, Brampton, Newfoundland, Downtown Toronto.
    Top 15: Based on performance from the preliminaries, very deserving. Though I would put in Mississauga somewhere.
    Winner (Malgosia Majewska): Love her, looks like a Miss World contender & has a heart of gold! She raised over $1000 for the Rock Solid Foundation. Canada is sending a beauty w/ a purpose!
    Rock Solid Foundation: The girls raised $36,000 just over a month! Way to go! :)
    Kind Gesture: The sweetest thing I witnessed was going to Tim Horton's w/ Miss Gatineau. A homeless man came up to her & asked if she could buy a coffee & donut for him at Timmy's (I think he wasn't allowed inside). Miss Gatineau bought him what he wanted & gave him back his change! What a sweetie!
    De-pageantized: Sorry about the lack of updates for the month of July. I was a bit drained after all this was over. I got to design the prelim & final tickets, 4 posters, 1 huge arse vinyl banner, cheque for Rock Solid, the awards, program book, took pics, & updated the MWC site. SO MUCH FUN! Yet I'm glad it's only once a yr ^^
    Finals: MWC's best show yet! Held at Toronto's newest theatre the Diesel Playhouse at 56 Blue Jays Way. The show opened with Ramona (MWC 05), performing her bellydance talent from Miss World 2005 & intro number w/ all the delegates (chreographed by Rosanna McGuire).
