    some comments
daniela - very photogenic but was not pageant ready. her dress was a major disaster & looked like a curtain...she also kept flapping it around and i was thinking omg this is not denise quinones' 2001's national costume!
marta - doesn't really shine on stage but shes gorgeous!! i don't think shes 5'8. perhaps 5'6.5 and up? her interview prob saved her. gown reminds me of south africa 2002 MU.
fanny - i hope she has another gown for the nationals because she could hardly walk tonight. theres other ways to show off her tiny waist...sigh but she was hot in ss
genita - she's so gorgeous!! she bounced a little in swimsuit though. her interview was decent but what a surprise when she was not named a finalist! her gown was exactly like natalie's turquoise MUC gown but white.
pamela - shes incredibly adorable...esp. during interviews! but i disliked her EG shoes..
lucie - in pics she's like nancy kerrigan but in person WOWWWW she actually reminded me of nazanin afshin jam!
alice - a shoo in from the start! this girl is already MU ready in terms of physique. she's def. a front-runner @ MUC 06. but her interview needs polishing & needs to smile a lot more. alice also reminds me of a brunette claudia schiffer. best gown of the night
shaileen - would make a good commercial model. performed well tonight. during interviews, she kept talking w/ her hands. gorgeous body.
lori-anne - not very photogenic she really came out of her shell towards the end. her hips did all the walking as her shoulders were extremely stiff but had one of the best bodies.
Overall: it's not easy putting on a wonderful show, but MUC has done it again. they might want to pay attention to the lighting next time because you can see ALOT of unnecessary things. performances by singer simone was superb & it's always a pleasure enjoying the evening with friends such as jimmy steele & vince!

  • Miss HK Discussion Forum
I received several emails regarding monitoring & deleting the 'psychotic & BS' posts from the Miss HK Forum. FYI, Miss HK Beauties hasn't had a forum since the end of May when I switched servers. The option for a forum is no longer available.

If you would like to report a problem on the Miss HK Forum, please e-mail the administrator at hkpopmaster@yahoo.com.

Again, I'm not affiliated with this forum...though I love to surf it...as it used to be a friendly & peaceful place :)

  • Miss HK Beauties Webmaster's Choice Awards
The MHKB Webmaster's Choice Awards are currently underway for
Miss HK & Miss Chinese Mew York. Results will be released before Aug 20th.

If you have a pageant website & would like to participate, please e-mail me :)

  • Speaking of E-mails, Miss HK Beauties was down for nearly 3 days & nearly crashed the server due to high traffic. Long story short, I have had to delete some large files & hopefully it doesn't go down again. This month's unique hits is approx. 521839. Some sections will be temporarily closed.

I've also been having a lot of trouble with my MHKB email so if you don't get an immediate response, I'm sorry! Is it irony that McAfee Spamkiller is eating up my emails?

  • 2005 Miss Asian America Crowned
Kollyn Muangamaithong also Takes Talent Award
    *By Janice Hom, AsianWeek.com

Kollyn Muangamaithong was crowned Miss Asian America August 6 at the Palace of Fine Arts. A 22-year-old ballet dancer with the Oakland Ballet Academy, she was also awarded the title of Miss Talent.

Muangamaithong hails from Walnut Creek, becoming the second Thai American to win the title. How does she feel? “Overwhelmed and completely surprised. I’m very honored to have received the title and I look forward to working with the staff, people and friends more. I can’t wait to grow stronger bonds with all the people.”

Joining her court were Carolyn Michaelis (1st Princess), Shana Dhillon (2nd Princess), Kara Birkenstock (3rd Princess/Miss Community Service), Linda Phung (Miss Congeniality) and Masae Nakayama (Miss Scholastic Achievement).

For this 20th annual event, AsianWeek also spoke with Rose Chung, founder, and Mona Lee Locke, the 1987 Miss Asian America, about their experiences as part of the Asian America Pageant in the United States.

Chung said it “was something to be proud of” in having one of the longest running Asian America pageants. “I can’t believe that twenty years have passed by. I think we are now an institution, well respected. We have established a reputation of having high integrity and ethics in our pageant. That’s our strong point and that’s what we are most proud of.”

When asked how she viewed the pageant 18 years after running in it herself, Locke replied: “It has evolved somewhat. I am very proud of the pageant and what a great job Rose Chung has done. It focuses on the Asian culture, bringing out the importance of all the cultures and having people learning about the cultures.”

Locke was also pleased about the platform each contestant has to take on. “It focuses the girls to think about issues. Once they are in the Miss Asian America one, we at least know that they are going to have to think about why they are doing it. We know that they are going to have depth and have intelligence.”
