Miss Latina Canada World 2005 was held last night at Markham Theatre (Toronto, Canada). The show was spectacular, displaying the spirit of the beautiful Latino culture. There were numerous dance performances by dance pros...perhaps a bit too much as we were all on the edge of our seats, anticipating the results through the well-organized 3 hr show. The pageant was hosted by Roanna Sabeh Azar & proceeds from the raffles were donated to Fragile X Research Foundation of Canada.

Winner was 20 year old Daniela Cruz of Etobicoke, who's a 2nd year York University student. She was the clear winner from start to finish, displaying poise, beauty, confidence & intelligence. During the interviews, she ROCKED & it was critical as the interviews were worth 50% of the final score (30% gown, 20% swimsuit).

1st RU Paolo Medina had one of the best gowns of the competition (strapless satin mint green) & delivered a great interview during the final question.

2nd RU Michelle Roscano was absolutely mezmerizing in the evening gown segment. Her gown was perfect for the occasion (white, long, & flowy) & she moved with grace & elegance.

Hats off to everyone, especially Stefany Singh (president of ES Team Productions), as it was her first pageant production. It was pretty darn impressive! Special thanks to pageant pro Jimmy Steele for inviting me to the lovely show. I had so much fun!

It was reported in Oriental Weekly that Joyce Cheng (Yun-Yee), daughter of popular HK TV icons Adam Cheng & Lydia Shum will be joining Miss HK this year. For those who aren't familiar with Yun-Yee, she was a teen who had some health issues due to obesity. Last yr, she signed with a diet company (which prob. includes scarfing down pills) & worked together to take off some weight. She's successfully lost at least 100 lbs. At the time, Yun-Yee claimed the purpose of slimming down was for health reasons. However, during a recent interview, she was caught saying "I was fat and now i'm beautiful and confident'. What kind of message is this sending to women?????????? Let's just hope this is one bad nightmare.

April 4th - Winnie news *translated by Em, TVB Space News Roundup
Roger Kwok, Winnie Yeung and Bosco Wong were filming with the crew of "Legend of Ah Wong" at Olympian City in a scene that tells of Ah Wong wearing a 3D Globe Outfit as a promotion on the street, where he meets his former teacher Winnie Yeung. Ah Wong's costume was very sweet and together with his flinging arms, he made the heavily pregnant Winnie laugh out loud as an early present for the baby.

Winnie 's baby is due in June and with her bump looking rather big, she was asked if she was expecting twins. She replied that she is not: "This is a baby girl and I am a little worried because my husband was over 9 lbs when he was born and I don't know if this baby will break his record!"

Roger was especially protective of Winnie, saying: "We hope to complete all her scenes first so she can go home".

Eyes set on the world *By Brookes Merritt (Toronto Sun), courtesy of Jimmy Steele
DOZENS OF young women strutted their stuff and met with judges yesterday during the Toronto casting call for the Miss World Canada pageant. Judges will choose five women to represent Toronto in the Canadian finals this summer.

"This is about more than beauty," pageant hopeful Jenna-Lee Creelman, 21, said at the Holiday Inn on King St. W.

The York University student (pictured 2nd from left) said she chose the Miss World pageant over others because of its emphasis on charity and strength of character.

"Some pageants are about more makeup and higher heels," she said. "But this recognizes our commitments to the community."

Judges saw a cultural cross-section of nearly 40 women between the ages of 19 and 24.

"These women all share a strong sense of womanhood and purpose," judge Roanna Sabeh-Azar said.

The winner of Miss World Canada will travel to China this fall to compete against women from 106 other countries for Miss World 2005.
