As of this morning, clips of last year's winner Fala Chen, have been available for viewing. The application deadline for Miss Chinese NY is on May 31st 2005 & I strongly urge anyone interested to join as they are preparing this event to the max (aren't they always?). The organizers hope to improve from last yr's pageant, introducing some 'new' elements.
There will not be a semi-finals. However, the committee will be selecting approx. 15 contestants. There may also be a photoshow, where the public & press will select their choice of Miss Photogenic. It's highly possible they will be filming some footage...away from NYC.

Due to the successful response of Miss Asia last yr, ATV are resurrecting Mr Asia. 3 representatives will hail from China, 3 from HK, & 6 from overseas. The winner will travel to India where he will participate in Mr. International.
Rival station TVB will also start Mr HK in May & will broadcast the show around July. A TVB rep claimed Miss HK & Mr. HK are the 2 major events this summer.

If both stations can afford to host the already been done/flop pageant, they might as well put their money away for a rainy day.

Miss Hong Kong Kate Tsui Tsz Shan, Queenie Chu Wai Man, and Priscilla Chi attended the promotion. Sze Sze said, "I worked very hard to lose five or six pounds, I want to lose five more. I have also been reading newspapers. (Are you worried about your future when your term coming to an end soon?) I am worried so I have to perform great and be an example for the new candidates."
Queenie Chu revealed that while in secondary school she has drawn Van Gogh's work. "I was afraid that people would find that coincidental, but I really wasn't lying. At the time I really like to draw, but my talent was limited and my grades were ordinary. Thus I have a love hate relationship with art." Kate Tsui said that although her home was small she still had some famous paintings.
Joe Ma Tak Chung said that earlier in Holland he has visited the Van Gogh Museum. He said that in his lifetime he would like to draw more since perhaps someone in the future would appreciate the art. Joe revealed that in May he and Sonija Kwok Sin Nei will go to China for four months for a television series. "I will go to Gold Coast, Australia for a holiday with my family before then."

Yesterday was the first local interview for Miss Hong Kong 2005. However, the general quality of the applicants was only “so so” with most girls being slightly overweighted. Without knowing this was a Miss Hong Kong interview, one might have thought it was the recruitment in finding a spoke person for a slimming company. In addition to that, most applicants would hide their faces whenever cameras were in site.
Majority of the girls yesterday wore some rather sexy dresses. In particular, one girl wore a pink orange low cut dress; however she changed back to more conservative clothes right after the interview. This year, there are still a few familiar faces came to try out for the pageant. For instance, Miss ATV girl 2001 second runner up was among one of the familiar faces. Interesting to note, Miss Hong Kong 2002 (Miss Talent) Rubyanne Choi also came to the interview. However, she was there to support her friend Isabella. Isabella is an Australia university student who is 21 years old.
According to a TVB official there are 2000 applicants for the pageant. Among them only 400 to 500 will get a chance to interview. As for the applicants who received an interview yesterday, they were mostly from abroad including Italy, Holland, Japan, and North America. The applicants would have one minute to introduce themselves in front of the judges while wearing their swimsuits. For those who made it to the first round of interviews, they will have to face judges such as DoDo Cheng, Eric Tsang, and Ka Wei Lee for their second interview. DoDo Cheng will be in charge of picking the sporty contestants, while Eric Tsang will be in charge of picking the eloquent ones. As for Ka Wei Lee she will be in charge of picking the pretty ones. A date for the Miss Hong Kong final has been set to be August 20. However the format and date of the semi final have not yet been arranged.

The film DIVERGENCE (SAM CHA HAU) will be released on the 28th in Hong kong and many Southeast Asian regions. The film held a premiere in Hong Kong two nights ago and broadband television covered the event exclusively.
