Semi-Finalists:

Olivia Cheng was the big favourite that year.
She was nominated by the same photographer who'd also nominated Loretta
Chu (Miss HK 1977), as well as Wanda Tai (Miss HK 1980).
Olivia was known to do the most spontaneous things. After winning
the title, she told her parents of her win (they resided in the UK).
When her reign came to an end, she quickly signed a contract with ATV,
rivals of TVB. This embarassing episode caused TVB to change the contracts
for Miss Hong Kong from 12 months to 18 months. She also posed nude
for a book. Olivia starred in serveral series/movies & is
now a golf instructor. Back in the 70s she held a record in HK for high
jump. Cherie Chung Chor-Hung #19 was another favourite,
but failed to win any awards. Some believe she came in fourth or perhaps
the MC Ivan Ho had announced the wrong name for 3rd,
as their names are relatively similiar. The rumors came to light as
before the announcement of the 1st RU, as Ivan Ho laughed
& said "Lets look at this carefully, don't want to mix it up
(Tai ching chor sin, um ho gau chor)". Before Cherie's
marriage to Michael Chu Ka-Ting, she was a famous HK
actress during the 80's - early 90's. Click on the link to see the crowning
