This was the first yr in which Miss HK officially began, follwing the great motto "Beauty and Wisdom", the winner Elaine Suen Wing-Yun was selected. Miss Universe 1972 Kerry Anne Wells from Australia crowned Elaine.

Elaine Suen is still well known today, and represented Hong Kong at Miss Universe.

Judy & Ethel (First and second runner-up) participated in Miss World, & Miss Asia. 2nd runner-up Ethel Lau placed 2nd at the Miss Asia quest pageant, and also took home the Miss Friendship & Miss Talent award.

3rd runner-up Gigi Chiu became a huge actress in HK. She has since married & retired, but recently made an appearance at Miss HK 2002, where she was one of the judges.
