Jan 4, 2003 Annie Wang (Miss Vancouver) and Lola Gong (Miss Amsterdam or Miss Benelux) arrived at Hong Kong International airport today, along with Miss Taipei. The HK media were right there to greet them at their arrival, perhaps to catch some candid shots that they can make fun of! Miss Taipei was told to keep quiet the whole time, thus HK media focused on Lola and Annie. When they were told that they will be filming in Haribin for 9 days, Lola was excited because she has never faced such cold weather before! The media commented that the girls so far are considered to be plain, especially their figure. In terms of facial features they all thought that Annie was the better of the three. One paper even compared her to Kenix Kwok! What a nice complement from the HK media for a change! Make sure to check back for more MCI news!

More delegates arrived at Hong Kong International airport today. They include Miss Seattle, Brisbaine, Johannesburg, Bankok, & Malaysia. The delegates are somewhat concerned about the cold weather in Harpin, as most of them are from tropical areas. According to the press, the girls are somewhat plain, & Miss Johannesburg To Lam Na appeared very confident today. When asked whether she would win the competition, she replied 'I think so!".

Miss Chinese International Delegates appears to public for the first time! There are some returning cities such as New York and Johannesburg as well as new ones such as Miss Lima! It was revealed that Edwin Siu will be a guest performer and there will be 7 awards up for grabs this year, along with the top 3, there is also Miss Friendship, Miss Vitality, Best Complexion and Miss "Ice City" Charm.
All the delegates appeared in the news conference, and as always the HK media focuses on famous resemblances, and of course the delegates' chest more than anything else.
Miss Manila is labelled as "A fuller version of Jiu Woon (a popular stage actress/dancer)," Tanya (Miss Melbourne) is labelled as "African version of Charlene Choi of Twins," Miss Bangkok is labelled as "The younger Loretta Chu (MHK '77)," and Miss Singapore resembles "A pirated version of Chiu Jing Yee (Miss Asia 1990 2nd Runner up)."
The part Korean Miss Manila (Chan Ging Hei) was the talk of the press with the most prominent chest, which was estimated as 36D! When asked whether Tiffany would feel threatened with other delegates figures, Tiffany never feared and said that her greatest asset is that fact that she is well balanced!
The Canadian delegates are quite strong this year, is it possible that another Canadian (or two) can make the podium again?

Poor Tanya! The MCI girls promptly went on their way and headed for Harbin. However Tanya (Miss Melbourne) lost her purse! Good thing that people found it in the Shenzen airport (lucky her) and she will get to pick it up when she returns from Harbin. Some delegates even offered to lend her some money (how nice!). Fortunately, she also had some money in her pockets! Lesson learned, never put your $ in once place while you're travelling! The MCI girls will head for Harbin for 9 days for the film shoot.

The 20 delegates have arrived in Harpin & have begun shooting for MCI. The weather is extremely cold, and some delegates who have never been exposed to such temperatures are having a hard time adjusting.
#19 Miss Chicago is having no difficulty posing under the -20 degree C. #5 Miss Malaysia said it was freezing when they began shooting. Moreover, the delegates are lacking in sleep, as they have stayed up late & risen early for shootings. #20 Miss HK Tiffany Lam thinks of the time she spent in San Francisco as a student, when the chilly weather is as cold as Harpin. Tiffany is also glad the other contestants don't feel they are treated unequally just because she is Miss HK. They are building up really good friendships & Tiffany has helped a few delegates with translation. *Thanks to Ennis for the translation

HYPER DELEGATE ON THE LOOSE
(and this time it's not Rana lol.. jkjk)
The wardrobe of the delegates this year are youthful as well as very colourful, since they wanted the girls to stand out on the snow.
As the second day of shooting began, some of the girls true colours begins to show. The attention craving Miss Chicago (#19) pictured here was reported to have a great "eye" for locating the camera, where she would put herself right in the middle of photos with space hogging poses by stretching out her arms in more than one occasion.
As the girls rode to the next stop, all the girls got off and took group pictures... all except for Chicago.
When asked of her whereabouts, she claimed that she was looking for something in her luggage in the car, yet the pagaent assistants said that she went missing, running of to do some shoe shopping, among other things. Apparently Miss Chicago is very media friendly and would answer all questions and will provide all sorts of poses, when the press noticed that her costume had white furry legwarmers (something that the others didn't have),Chicago says "I am so special, and other than Mandarin, I am also good in French and Shanghaiese! I am a language genius!"
On a more pleasant note, Vickii was also in Harbin filming on promotion videos for Pearl Television, and she came to visit Tiffany. When asked what Vickii did to encourage Tiffany, she says that she gave her a good luck card as well as toe socks! Perfect for such weather!

Harsh weather takes its toll on the girls
The third day of on-location of filming consists of mostly outdoors on the busiest street in Harbin. The local public pays great attention to this excursion. Other than the local press constantly filming, the local police also blocked sections of the street for ease of filming. The lovely girls also attracted great amounts of local spectators.

While filming, the girls got to do a bit of shopping as well and the press noticed a ring worn on Tiffany's right ring finger! Tiffany jokes that she was "already married." Note to readers: Unless you want to be asked whether you're married, don't wear a ring on your ring finger.. lol

The harsh cold weather is not exactly forgiving, as it starts to show in the girls. Many of the girls, including Miss Amsterdam (#9), Miss Toronto (#10), Miss Manila (#17) and Miss Chicago (#19) have obviously developed "bumps" on their faces. Out of everyone, Diana apparently was in the most serious condition, where she has a great amount on her forehead (do you see it in the pic? I don't). Diana did say that since she has combination skin, it is easier for her to get these bumps, but she has brought lots of skincare items along with her and she has already show signs of improvement after using them.

However out of everyone, Suzie (#16 Miss Sydney) and Tanya (#3 Melbourne) became ill. Apparently Suzie was too prepared for the cold weather, wearing 5 layers of clothes and pants, however she filmed indoors that day so the warm clothing did the reverse effect! Miss Chicago still remains the same, trying to think of ways to attract the press. The official stats for contestants #1-10 have already released and out of which #8 Annie Ma have the greatest 36" bust.

The delegates are still freezing & still shooting the segments for the MCI pageant. However, they were able to have some fun & took some time sliding on the hills. It is said that Tiffany's closest friend is Miss Manila #17, as they're very similiar in character. During the pageant, Tiffany was closest to Miss Vancouver, Manila, Sydney, and Calgary.

Oopsy Daisy! Accidents happen on swimsuit shooting day!

The girls had a day off from the chilly weather and got to stay indoors for the swimsuit shooting! As always more things were revealed once the girls are in swimsuits.
However out of everyone Suzie (Miss Sydney), revealed more than expected as her bikini wasn't covering the proper spots. It wasn't until when the pagaent officials overed a towel over her that she realized.
All the girls were wearing bikinis but Grace (Miss Manila) had to wear a tube style 2 piece, which was definitely more conservative than the other ones, it was reported that it was because TVB did not have a bikini with proper support for her so she had to wear the one she wore.

Other tidbits were also heard along the poolside. Tanya (Miss Melbourne) was wearing a bandaid to cover up her tattoo. Diana (Miss Toronto) was reported to be hairy especially around the stomach area (probably making a big deal because we can't seem to see it from the pictures). However, the most exciting news was about Monique (Miss Chicago, who is dubbed as "Camera Hog" by the media) - where she was found talking to the pagaent "nanny" as well as the makeup artist complaining about her makeup, where it ended with Monique in tears. After this dispute, she never smiled in any of her photos. When she was approched my the press to verify this incident, Monique rudely responed and denied the accusations. However the nanny, who was standing right beside Monique quicky responded in veryifing that the "makeup incident" did happen. Monique was left standing speechless.

The talent show took place in Harbin during a charity show. Several delegates had knock out talents, while others were critized. Miss Hong Kong Tiffany Lam impressed all with her hip-hop dance, Miss Vancouver played elegantly on the 'chinese piano', Miss Sydney Susie Wang performed a peacock dance & completed the perfect splits! Miss Bangkok performed a traditional Thai dance. The 'misses' of the show were the 'singers' from Chicago, Montreal, & Los Angeles. The pressed claimed they were off key when they sang. In order related news, Miss Tahiti bruised her lip while sliding as Miss Bangkok accidentally fell on her. As for Miss Bangkok, a rumour is that she lied about her education & that she works in a sauna club. Obviously these are lies, as Miss Bangkok has the evidence that she is a Philosophy major at Kasertsart University.

After 9 days shooting, heading back to HK. The temperature had been remaining -10 degrees and most of them have adapted to the weather. However, the temperature suddenly dropped down to -20 degree as they were shooting a scene at the park. Due to the freezing weather, most of the delegates were shaking & their facial movements were "miserable", a few delegates couldn't stand the frezzing cold weather & finally broke into tears .... including Miss Manila. "The cold was unbearable...you have no idea" as quoted by one of the delegates. TVB please change your shooting locations next yr! STOP freezing everyone! *Thanks to Ennis for translation

There hasn't been much news in the last couple days, but Miss Chicago once again made the headlines at the farewell dinner in Harbin. It was said that she gave her number to a 'mystery' man! Miss New York another hand, showed her assertiveness when she brushed off a drunk male at the party. However, these have been confirmed as lies by some contestants, as Chicago never gave her number out to anyone, and Miss New York never had an encounter with a drunken male. Will the HK press ever print the truth?! In other related news, Miss Amsterdam & Seattle, share their birthdays in January and celebrated their special day together with the other delegates. Happy Birthday!
Miss Chicago and an admirer.

The Miss Best Complexion award has been presented! Miss Bangkok has won the first award! Congratualtions. I think it's safe to say unless she totally chokes, Bangkok has already made the top 5. Her secret to keeping healthy skin? Lots of water, vitamins, milk, & lotion! There were three judges (Sek Sau, Kan Pui Wan, & Priscilla Ku) in deciding the winner of this award & all felt Miss Bangkok's beautiful honey colored skin was the best. They selected the winner by using a special light to see the close up of the delegate's skin. As for one of the favourites Miss Toronto, her slightly bumpy skin left her out of contention. Special guests for this Saturday's event includes Sonija Kwok (MCI '00), Michelle Yip (MCI '99), & singer Kelly Chen.

TOMORROW IS THE NIGHT! Here are the girls in their swimsuit rehersals yesterday. The swimsuits were said to be conservative and made the contestants look "flat". The only intriguing thing the press reported was Miss Melbourne's swimsuit wasn't worn properly thus it could have revealed more than it intend to. Now, the favourites for the crown are said to be #2 Miss Bangkok, #10 Miss Toronto, and #20 Miss Hong Kong. Tiffany seems to be getting a lot of votes for Miss Friendship. Miss Calgary admitted voting for her and hopes that she makes the top 3! Tiffany is hoping to become the third Miss Chinese International for Hong Kong, she says that she has been even keeping a more strict diet than the time of Miss Hong Kong! But she is not going to try to give herself pressure. Michelle Ye (MCI 1999 & guest performer) says that the key to winning is how you perform on competition night. Even if you don't know Cantonese, as long as you can give a witty answer, you will still have a great performance! Let's all wish all the girls good luck in MCI and may the best girl wins!

Left: Miss Sydney and Miss Vancouver in the "conservative" swimsuits. These swimsuits, are reminiscent to suits used in many high school swim teams!
